I am currently re-reading, for the umpteenth time, one of the Cadfael stories by Ellis Peters. As I am enjoying it, I have found myself reflecting on what type of stories I enjoy and what makes for a good story.

This week it was announced that this year the popular TV show Strictly Come Dancing is to have a same-sex couple competing, a first in its 16 year history. The boxer Nicola Adams will dance with a female partner.

This week I read a heart-warming account of a teenage boy making a discovery that brightened the lives of a family on the other side of the world. It set me wondering about the sentimental value that we attach to some things.
